Hoe gaat het met SPMS in Nepal?
Net als de afgelopen jaren, steunt de PKN Duiven ook dit jaar SPMS in Nepal. Stichting SPMS is opgericht door Urmila, die zich al 18 jaar met passie inzet voor kansarme vrouwen en kinderen. SPMS richt zich op onderwijs aan volwassen analfabete vrouwen en naai- en weeflessen om kansarme vrouwen zelfvoorzienend te maken. Daarnaast biedt SPMS ook onderwijs aan (kansarme) basisschoolkinderen, via de MAMTI-school. Zoals u zult begrijpen worden ook zij hard getroffen door de coronacrisis.
Corona in Nepal
Ook al zijn er ‘maar’ 47 bevestigde coronagevallen (23-04-20), Nepal is in totale lockdown. Er dreigt een tekort aan voedsel, thermometers, desinfectiemiddelen en testmiddelen. De ziekenhuizen zijn slecht voorbereid. Om corona te voorkomen eten mensen meer gember, knoflook, limoen en sterk gekruid eten. Dit zal helaas niet helpen.
Noodoproep van Urmila
Urmila heeft ons laten weten dat zij zich veel zorgen maakt. Het onderwijs voor analfabete vrouwen, de naailessen, de school voor kansarme kinderen, allemaal zijn ze dicht. Ook zijn alle winkels dicht. Mensen wordt gevraagd binnen te blijven. Iedereen is bang om corona te krijgen.
Op 29 april heeft Urmila ons laten weten, dat na 38 dagen lockdown, het voor veel gezinnen erg moeilijk is om te leven met het weinige voedsel dat er is. Veel mensen hebben al dagen niet gegeten.
Het schoolteam en SPMS hebben daarom een plan gemaakt om gezinnen zonder eten te ondersteunen. Urmila gaat de aankomende maand rijst, aardappels, olie, biscuits, suiker, zeep en benzine uitdelen aan 16 families van de MAMTI-school en SPMS (de analfabete vrouwengroep). Zo helpt zij in totaal 136 kinderen en volwassenen die het erg zwaar hebben en geen eten hebben voor henzelf en hun kinderen. Daarvoor heeft zij ons om hulp gevraagd. De PKN Duiven heeft hiervoor €1223 gedoneerd. Zonder uw gift aan de ZWO-actie was dit niet mogelijk geweest. Hartelijk dank!
